AM Training: Shooting Pistol

Forward Deceleration:

When you are 100% cold hitting the range try a challenging drill that taxes your fundamentals.  This drill is a simple drill of two shots at each position of 25 yrds, advance to 20 yrds, 15 yrds and finally two shots at 10 yards.  It is harder than it looks.  Be sure to be 100% cold, no warm ups, sight picture, dry run or dry fire.  Just grab the gun and go!

Check out these videos in this playlist of some early morning a.m. shooting.

Multiple Shots: Target Focused

When shooting a rapid shot drill, really focus on what your grip and stance is doing but keep your trigger mechanics in check.
I am not that concerned about going target focused in a rapid shot drill. At close ranges I am target focused anyways. I do; however, like to have strong awareness of the sights when tracking the gun during live fire.

Rapid Shot Drill:

Rapid Shot Drill.  Shooters need the skill of placing a lot of rounds in a tight time frame in a tight as cone as possible.  The main fundamental taxed in a rapid shot drill is grip and stance; however, trigger control is also a vital fundamental not to be ignored.

Moving No Shoots

Scan when you are “done” shooting.  What else needs to be shot.  When you are done shooting mentally be aware does anything need to be shot.  The underlying skill is to be mentally aware if anything needs to be shot and then work on techniques on what to look for (i.e. hands of people in vicinity).

Buddy Training

Get used to moving bodies down range when you shoot, safely. Use the SIRT to train your drills and learn how to deal with a no shoot moving target (friendly) that is down range.

Do not engage in force on force training on the live fire range. Do not sweep your partner (point the SIRT at him).

Train with a 12 lbs Trigger

Train with a heavy trigger to build up your trigger finger. This drill is a simple drill of two shots at each position of 25 yrds, advance to 20 yrds, 15 yrds and finally two shots at 10 yards.  It is harder than it looks.
